Nora Turato, born in 1991 in Zagreb, Croatia, is a performance artist who lives and works in Amsterdam. Her work is based on the versatility of language as an instrument in the creation of immersive spoken performances, which break down the distinction between music and performance art. In her linguistic performances she fuses fragments of advertising slogans, everyday conversations, literature, and social media posts, clichés that culminate in a powerful soundscape, halfway between performance art and contemporary music. The work of Nora Turato is shown internationally, with exhibitions and performances at venues such as Neuer Aachener Kunstverein, Aachen; Mumok, Vienna; Vleeshal, Middelburg; Leopold-Hoesch Museum, Düren; Centre d’Art Contemporain, Geneva; Museum of Contemporary Art, Denver; Kunsthalle Wien, Vienna; Metro Pictures, Kölnischer Kunstverein, Cologne; New York; and Manifesta 12, Palermo. Her solo show "explained away" opens on 22. February in Kunstmuseum Liechtenstein, curated by Fabian Flückiger.
A conversation with Nora Turato, Fabian Flückiger (Kunstmuseum Liechtenstein) and Petra Tomljanovic (Kulturfolger) will be published on Vizkultura, visual arts and culture online magazine www.vizkultura.hr
